Montrose Area School District

The Montrose Area School District is a small, rural public school district located in northeastern Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. It serves the following municipalities: Montrose, Bridgewater Township, Franklin Township, Liberty Township, Jessup Township, Forest Lake Township, Silver Lake Township, Little Meadows, Choconut Township, Friendsville, and Middletown Township. The Montrose Area School District encompasses approximately . According to 2000 federal census data, the District serves a resident population of 11,708 people. Per District officials, in school year 2007-08 the Montrose Area School District provided basic educational services to 1,934 pupils through the employment of 145 teachers, 104 full-time and part-time support personnel, and 10 administrators. In 2006, the district's students were 98% white, >1% Asian, 1% black and 1% Hispanic.
The district operates three schools: Choconut Elementary, Lathrop Street Elementary, and Montrose Area Jr/Sr High School. The 6th grade is provided in the elementary schools, and the 7th and 8th grades are provided in the Jr./Sr. building.
==Academic achievement==
Montrose Area School District was ranked 348th out of 498 Pennsylvania school districts in 2012, by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
